It’s wonderfully reassuring to see one’s master tapes being handled so well. I’m a big fan of Studer studio machines for that reason. I no longer use tape but when I did the Studer was always my first choice, generally 800 multitrack.

Variable speed is a good thing to have especially when a tape was recorded from a record player that played a little fast or a slightly slow tape transport with the tape being recorded on.

The fast forward mode only works when it’s in loudspeaker playback.

How many all time hits got rcordered in that equipment

Cal/uncal is NOT an automatic gain control. CAL means Calibrated, it merely sets the machine's input/output signal levels to recognised studio standard voltages, rather than operator adjustable levels.

❤ I don't have any digital tape recorders in my collection. (I have many analog machines.) I certainly wouldn't turn away that Sony DASH machine, but I would *LOVE* to own a Studer C37. Right now, my first and only Studer is a B67 MkI. I dream of someday adding a C37 or A80 or an A800-series machine to my collection!

Hi, I have a question. I also have an X-1810D. However, when I power, the unit on the capstan is constantly spinning. Also, when in play, both reels start spinning very fast in opposite directions. What could this be? Any help is very appreciated.

We all been there. On of the Rifas at the small boards at the top? Happened on my B67 as well, also kept on going. Almost done recapping her now, runs without issues now with a PSU that had everything but two transistors replaced.

Are you making reparation this recorder? I have same, what not works, seams something with CPU, because can not switch speed. bridge not reacting, etc.

It appears the sensitivity of the meters are too hot, no way the repro was recorded at those levels.

I'd be scared to death by those flange-less reels. I'd have visions of miles of tape flying all over the shop!

Sorry... but, for the money honey, I'll take my Studer a807any day. I'm very happy with it. I bought it just about 3 years ago for about $4000.00, that's buck-a-roo$. It operates flawlessly (after a little TLC). Don't get me wrong. I'd love to have an 820. Most of all I'd love to own a J-37 because of the 50 + tubes.

My God that's GORGEOUS!!!!! 😍😍 absolute PRECISION MACHINERY!!!!

I worked with four of these for over a decade. The flight case is just the right width to go between your knees! I must have done a hundred thousand edits using a CAT automatic splicer with tape dispenser on top of the head block. With Ampex 456 and Dolby A (later dolby SR) these produced the best sound at 15 ips that I have ever heard. We had no meter bridges and used the twin, twin PPMs on the Calrec mixer for everything. Just hearing all the mechanism noises brings a tear to the old eye! Our Otari machines never really felt right and they were massive, Editing on a big machine - even an A80 - is hard on the back after the compact B62.

THOSE BIG MACHINES HAVE A PRICE. MASTER MIXER. BEN LIEBRAND HAS A BIG TAPE MACHINE. AND HE TALKS. THAT FOR THE PRICE YOU CAN BUY A CAR.

hi you are the only one in the uk with this number of decks i ever seen i used to get around myself looking at decks corr you got to have help over time getting decks in i am finding the tascam 30 lines are not that great and someone need to make a new pcb logic (pcb way ) because the pcb in the decks are going bad over time i am finding now 40 years very good i am finding drop outs on my brennel mini 8 after i just fix it on the trans port

As great as those machines are (and I've worked with them before), I'd really be hesitant putting a three or five inch reel of tape on one side, and a 10.5 inch metal takeup reel on the other. I'd be very afraid of the machines handling of the tape with those awkward differences. Nice video, though. Enjoy the machine. I'd love to have one but have nowhere that kind of money!

I had a Ferrograph Studio 8 stereo console (with mic preamps) and it was not only good, but had some highly innovative ideas incorporated. I still have my Stellavox SP-8, bought in 1982, replacing its predecessor SP-7 on which I interviewed its creator, Georges Quellet, at an event many years ago.
